The Teachings surrounding creation are multiple. They have been presented to man by many masters. In this category I will start the series by examining Genesis in the King James Version of the Bible. Chapter 1, verse 1: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

The first statement providing guidance is “In the beginning …” By understanding the beginning it opens your mind to how life is built from the inside to the outside. This is why Buddha said 2500 years ago: “What we think we become.”

The first day speaks of creation of heaven and earth. Additionally there is the descriptive passage about it being formless and dark. Looking at these statements from a symbolic point of view you see that everything is a combination of “Heaven” and “Earth”. Heaven is symbolic of Spirit. This is so because God dwells in Heaven. Heaven also encompasses the air you breathe. Therefore air is also symbolic of Spirit. Without it you would cease to exist. Thoughts also take place in the thinking, non-physical realm, again “heaven”. All thoughts originate from the Mind of God in “heaven”.

Earth is symbolic of the Material Plane. The Material Plane is everything physical. Our bodies are a prime example of a material object endowed with a Spirit as a living energy. 

This is easily seen when you consider that brain activity is measured by the “electrical” impulses it generates. In fact through the conscious control of your mind you can alter the electrical waves, or output of your brain\mind. Another understanding is that people are a combination of both spiritual and material energies. Your essence is spiritual and your body is material.
