Spiritual Gift of Hearing

In this blog post, we will explore the sense of hearing. Before we dive into it we look at the prevailing cliché of “you hear what you want to hear.”

People always want to hear those things that will validate their belief system. Everyone wants others to join in their religion, movement, belief system. In doing so they feel they are right because they have been validated by the others, affirming the same thoughts/beliefs.

Conversely, the opposite is also true. It is that people don’t want to hear certain things. Things they don’t agree with, including the truth of something that is not in keeping with their belief system. Another thing they don’t want to hear is elders, siblings, parents, teachers and even friends telling what they must do, or be. This is turn, over time, will create a deafness. Because, they just don’t want to hear it anymore.

As an example, my stepfather, who, being the youngest among three older sisters, endured a continuous stream of maternal advice. By his early thirties, he was already dependent on a hearing aid. This demonstrates the powerful impact of words, which can trigger diverse responses within us. Some not wanting to hear any longer.

Language possesses the capacity to stimulate specific concepts on many levels. For our conversations, it’s all about what is stimulated in the subconscious mind. That is where the emotional actions and reactions spring from.

In our next posting we will explore those actions and reactions.
